Business is all around. We participate in business as both a consumer and professional each and every day. A strong foundation in core business concepts will prepare you to navigate and grow your career in any field that you choose.

In this course students will learn through inspiring stories and real-world activities that reveal what ‘business’ really is, how it works, and how they can participate. Students will explore the main functional areas of business; operations, finance, marketing, human resources, and leadership and management.

These business leaders will teach students the fundamentals of business and turn understanding into real-world skills that can be applied to their careers, today.

Business is all around you. You interact with it each and every day. From the place you work to the products you buy to the food that you eat, business is the thing that connects you to the goods and services you need and want.

This week, you’ll be introduced to Rochelle and her amazing company, Alikay Naturals. With her story as inspiration, you’ll learn about Product Development and explore its application to your day-to-day life.

You’ll be introduced to the topic of Operations, the process for creating and delivering a product to customers, and continue discussions with your peers about the products you use at home.

You’ll hear the story of Shaun and Rachel, and how finance knowledge has been critical to the success of their company. You’ll learn key finance terms and explore the lessons you’ve learned from your own financial decisions.

Learning from Shaun and Rachel, we’ll dig deeper into accounting. We’ll look at how three key financial statements are created and how they can be used by businesses to make financial decisions.

You’ll meet Elisa, the chief marketing officer of the Brooklyn Nets, and learn about how she used marketing concepts to create a successful new brand.

This week, you’ll be introduced to the role of both brand and sales in supporting marketing efforts. You’ll also continue discussions with your peers about the effectiveness of celebrity endorsements in advertising.

You’ll be introduced to Paul and Ari of Zingerman’s Delicatessen and community of businesses. You’ll explore how critical people are to an organization and the key characteristics of a successful manager.

You’ll be introduced to the importance of leadership to a successful business. In discussions with your peers, you’ll also continue to explore the key characteristics of a successful manager.

Learn about Netflix and how they’ve worked to outpace the competition. You’ll be introduced to the role competition plays in driving business and explore with your peers businesses that are competing today.
