MAT210
Data Driven Decision-Making

No matter where their lives or career takes them, being able to interpret, analyze, and communicate mathematical data can help students anticipate and overcome real-world problems in fields like business, criminal justice, science, health, and more.

In this course, students will strengthen their problem solving, initiative, and results driven skills by exploring how to make data-based decisions and present them to a range of audiences. Understanding how to work with, showcase, and draw conclusions from data in a variety of situations will not only help our students solve problems and make successful decisions throughout their lives and careers, it will also help them take decisive action and stay focused on their goals.

Course Outcomes

  • Explain the foundational statistical skills needed to solve problems and draw conclusions
  • Solve mathematical problems using statistical methods and tools to draw conclusions.
  • Recommend solutions based on the analysis of data using graphs, charts, or other visual means to different audiences.

Media Assets

  • Features 5 Video Stories

Over the next 11 weeks, you’ll strengthen the skills you need to reach your goals using the power of data! As you learn to harness the data around you to showcase information, make decisions, and get results, you’ll also discover how the skills and mathematical concepts you’re learning in this course can help you plug into a future that’s exponentially greater than what you’d ever imagined!

This week, you’ll strengthen your problem solving, initiative, and results driven skills by learning how to use the same statistical processes as the pros. By discovering why statistical studies matter in the real world, you’ll learn how to spark solutions in your personal life and career.

This week, you’ll build your problem solving, initiative, and results driven skills by learning the best ways to gather data. Understanding how to correctly gather data in the real world will help you take control of the information around you and avoid bias, so you can find solutions and make the best decisions in your life and career!

This week, you’ll strengthen your problem solving skill by learning how making predictions using statistical probability can help you make the best decisions in your life and career. You’ll also practice using your initiative skill to seek out the necessary tools and resources you’ll need to stay successful now and in your future.

This week, you will strengthen your problem solving skill by learning how statistical tools and models can help you create visualizations (like graphs!) to understand the bigger picture and use it to make the best decisions for your life and career. Getting comfortable with visualizing data can also help you hone your results driven skill because you’ll be better equipped to track the results you need to stay focused on your goals!

This week, you will continue to strengthen your problem solving skill as you explore how to use confidence intervals to estimate the range of your results. By learning to confidently interpret data, you’ll be better positioned to find accurate solutions at school, work, and home!

This week, you’ll apply your problem solving skill to help audiences go beyond the numbers in your data. By learning to communicate the stories behind statistical evidence, you’ll discover how to harness the power of data to present engaging conclusions and encourage people to take action.

This week, you’ll strengthen your problem solving and results driven skills by exploring how you can use data to determine the kinds of relationships different variables have. You’ll also examine how to best communicate those relationships to others so they can connect the dots.

This week, you will continue to strengthen your problem solving and results driven skills by learning how to draw conclusions from data. Knowing how to properly interpret statistical information will help you use those conclusions to make decisions when faced with complicated issues in your personal and professional life.

This week, you’ll build your initiative and results driven skills by exploring how you can use data to determine where to take action and how to reach your goals throughout your career.

Congrats on reaching the final week of MAT210! Over the past 11 weeks, we’ve explored the many ways data can build your problem solving, initiative, and results driven skills to give you a professional edge. As you face challenges throughout your life and career, you’ll continue to discover new ways to use data and statistics to succeed at beating the odds.
